U.S. Politicians are the 4th Graders of the World

Fickle, whiny, prone to throwing temper tantrums. That is our government in a nutshell. Not unlike the mentality of a fourth grader, our government is now in the habit of calling "take backs" when they don't like the outcome of a gift they gave "freely".

As Evelyn Beatrice Hall once wrote, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Well I disapprove of the bonuses AIG is giving out, but I will defend to the death their right to give them.

Very few people, regarding this AIG bonuses situation, are focusing on Congress' nearsightedness. Congressman Chris Dodd wrote an amendment into the AIG bailout that allowed for these bonuses to be paid! Now all of a sudden the politicians are claiming they didn't know it was bad to include an amendment allowing bonuses to be paid with bailout money, like a fourth grader not knowing it's wrong to hit another child.

It's too late now, but the way to prevent these bonuses would have been to never given them the bailout money in the first place. We are supposed to be a CAPITALIST nation, meaning that if a company makes risky business ventures (like loaning money to people with bad credit or no capability of paying it back on time) that fail, then said company should fail as well. The government needs to stop throwing around this "TOO BIG TO FAIL" shit.

To start, it doesn't even make sense. If it was "too big" to fail, then why is it failing? And if it's too important to fail, then why did the government sit idly by before when AIG was making bad business decisions? It's only when the blame starts to fall on Congress, or the administration, that steps are taken to handcuff AIG. It's only when they can't have their way and still be liked (via bailing out a failing company and have public support for it) that they begin to throw their tantrums.

Our congressmen are nothing more then poorly parented children... and unfortunately, We, the people are the parents.

Vote Socialist in 2008

All the plans proposed by the presidential candidates and Congress this year are anything but capitalistic, which is what kind of nation we are supposed to be.

Obama's health care plan? He wants the corporations to pay for health care for all U.S. citizens, regardless of whether they work for any of these companies or even work at all.

McCain's gas tax holiday? He wants to give remove the federal taxes from gasoline sales for about 2 months and let the savings be passed to the people, even though those taxes pay for the upkeep of highways and other road-related expenses.

Why is Congress pushing for just hydrogen fuel cells, or just corn ethanol, or just offshore drilling? Let the free market decide which method works best, whether it be wind power (c/o T. Boone Pickens et al), increased drilling, or--God forbid--nuclear power.

The government can still impose its safety laws on all of these potential energy sources, but it doesn't make any sense for them to decide which is the best for America. Here's what's best for America: OUR IMAGE.

Since the weight of U.S. currency is based off the faith in the U.S. government and nation in general, it is important we show to the world that we are still the leaders in western capitalism and democracy. Even the Chinese, perhaps the world's most Communist country now, are buying up huge amounts of American companies, and have loaned the U.S. government billions of dollars. It could be because they want a large slice of the pie when our country reaches its inevitable self-destruction. More likely is that they realize the U.S. is the home of the best market, because it is still capitalist.

People, ignore what your parents tried to instill in you growing up: Image is everything.
