Free Write Assignment in Class

We have to write for five minutes about Hal Keller, the Executive Director of Fiscal Services. Hal was the lesser known brother of Helen Keller, and was unfortunate enough to have been born without the few senses that his sister did enjoy.

Even though Helen had no hearing or sight capabilities, she still had a superb sense of smell and tactile response that allowed her to feel sign language and the cool rushing from the spicket as she spoke her first word "wahhhtaaahhh". Unfortunately, Hal had neither of those senses, and had to rely only on his hearing and sight.

But still Hal prevailed, becoming the Executive Director of Fiscal Services at extension 4-5008. He even managed to start a romantic office fling with Lisa Freeman of the Purchasing Department at extension 4-5204. Things began to get complicated when Hal could never feel the warmth of Lisa's hands, or the softness of her lips. Needless to say, the relationship didn't last long.

Quick back story: professor put up a slide of an office telephone tree and we just had to write for five minutes using that as a starting point. I think he wanted us to explore the theory of functionalism and every one's place within that social order known as the office, but I hear free write and take it literally.

It seems that they never really want us to do what they tell us to do. "free write" means write about what I say.

Interesting point to ponder. Would you rather not see or not feel?
